port area

When designing ported boxes of any kind, should the port area always match the cone area of the subs?

I've read that if the port area is too small, there will be losses, especially with 4th orders trying to play under tuning.

What is the appropriate ratio of port area to cone area to get the best output as possible?

There are many complexities when trying to figure out port area for 4th orders. There is no really good rule of thumb.

As far as ported goes for rap and heavy bass, like dude said, 12-16 in^2 per cube will work for almost anything.
