Popping/feedback question

Newbie needs your advice -

I just installed an amp (Memphis 16-ST300) and some Rainbow Germaniums. I have a Premier DEH-880PRS, and I'm using a KnuKonceptz 4 gauge wiring kit.

I fired it up tonight, and it works fine at low volumes. The problem is when I turn it up. My speakers start to pop. Additionally, when I turn up my gain (to a little bit past half way), a hear a feedback-type sound going through my whole system.

I was running my 880PRS on the factory speakers before hand and there was no problem running them at high volumes (so I think I can eliminate the HU as a possibility).

Does this sound like a grounding problem?

Yes, sounds like a ground issue.

Pioneer HU's are famous for needing the RCA's grounded. Give that a try. I had the same problem, and i am running a DEH6800MP, non-Premier. This may not be the problem, but it couldn't hurt to give it a shot.

Also, could be a ground loop. Have to do some more research on both of those possibilities.

there was a thread a while back that addressed your problem. something about a microfuse inside the 880 that pops easily if not grounded well enough and you have to take it to a pioneer repair facility to get it fixed.
