Title states it all, take your pick. Im throwing around ideas for my august project. My amp is an autotek 4000.1 (4000RMS @ 2ohms)

options are:

-(2) 18" RE MT's, Fi BTLs, AQ HDC3's, or similar (total sd: 2420cm^2)

-(4) 15" Alpine Type-R's, Fi SSD's, RE SX's, or similar (total sd: 3240cm^2)

-(8) Kicker l5's. pretty much my only option if i go 10's is square subs for cone area. (total sd: 3512cm^2)

Take your vote.

EDIT: Here are some rough examples of what i am working with

two 18's:

four 15's:

and eight 10's:

well, i voted four 15's for no particular reason. thats the original plan, but i've been pondering the whole eight 10s idea. 18's are just too easy of an option because i've already done that:p://content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif:p:

i would do the 4 15s only cuz i have them now and done the 18 thing. more cone area is nice, i like the 8 10 idea but would it get low are u lookin for looow?
an 8" driver will play just as low as a 458948594" driver //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

8 10''s simply for the wow factor as all seem comparable in performance.
thats exactly what i was thinking //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

the cone area for four 15's is greater than the 18's, and the xmax wouldnt differentiate too much, so naturally the four 15's would probably have better output

between the four 15's and eight 10's is a close call though. the 10's have much more cone area, but lack a little bit of the xmax the 15's will have, so its a pretty fair trade-off

I've used 8's, 12's, 15's, and 18's, but never 10's

When you look at cone area, you're doing it all wrong.
You need to look at the Sd of the speaker //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

orly?

please elaborate //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

EDIT: now that i look at it, i guess there isnt much elaboration needed

For subwoofers with the usual 12spoke basket and pulp cone... like the Fi's and RE's...

18 = 1210cm^2

15 = 810 cm^2

L710 = 439 cm^2
