Polk SR6500 Installation

Thanks man. I'm dying to get them in, but also disappointed that there's a long break-in period. Anyone know how long it is with these?

where are you located in IL. Can I come listen to your car. I'm going to be runnin those speakers in my next setup and wanted to Demo them first!
Well, I'm all over right now, but when I am home, it's the quad city area. It looks like a 3.5 hour drive from Antioch.

Well I've got them in. I didn't have enough time yesterday to install the new amp or crossovers so it's just the tweeter hooked up. It already sounds WAY better than my Infinity's without the 6.5 speaker running! (...and the tweets not broken in at all.)

No pics because it was dark when I finished, and I only have my camera phone right now.

Anyone who has experience with baffles please help:

So I installed my speakers. The plexiglass baffles are deadened and so are the doors. The "problem" is that the plexiglass doesn't contact the door flush. Will this small space render the baffle useless? Should I sound deaden over the gap?

Well, it's water resistant, strong, fairly cheap, and sound dampener is easy to apply to it. I learned, however, it's a ***** to cut and I probably won't use it next time. The install did go well though.

are they not sitting flush with panel cause ur speaker is too deep?

I find it hard to believe the SR will fit with a 1/4 space as I have a cavi and they are shallow

They don't fit flush because the panel is not completely flat. There are contours that leave a small gap in some places.

As far as fitting them, the plexi was 1/4", along with a supplied space (prob 1/4" or 1/2"?). These fit very tight. The window clearing is probably millimeters.

Here's Phers1er's build log with Hertz HK 165s in his doors. They have a mounting depth of 2.64 inches. Polk's are 2.56 inches.

Oopsy daisy! So I when I got the speakers, I hadn't received the amp yet. So I wired them in and just so I'd have music until the new amp arrived, I wired the preexisting wires to the tweeters from the old amp. However, being a retard, I forgot to adjust the crossover points. And, well, you guessed it. I blew the tweeters. Lol, shit happens. I contacted Polk, and am awaiting reply on getting new tweeters.

Also, I believe my plexiglass baffles are resonating. So I made new baffles from particleboard, with closed cell vinyl foam on the back to reduce vibrations transferred to the door panels and then sound dampening with dynamat. Hopefully this will help a little.
