SQ: don't just hear the music
I also posted this over at DIYMA, but figured I'd also post here so I can get as much feedback as I can....

I'm considering a pair of 8" DVC in small sealed enclosures (about 0.4-0.5 each max) to be run off around 450w combined in an SQ-oriented system (not competition grade by any means, I just like to listen to my music rather than hear it).

Does anyone have any experience with these subs and care to comment on their SQ? How would they compare to a pair of 8" CVR's with the same sized enclosures and power?

I've had a set of momo 12's and a set of cvr 12's and I definitely liked the momos better. Didnt get that loud but they sounded pretty nice for what they are. If possible I would get a single 10" sr and run 500wrms to that.

Thanks for the input man. As much as I'd absolutely love to run a 10 or an SR, I'm thinking about flushing some subs in the sides of hatch, and 8's are likely as big as I can go.

I would have to agree, I had a set of the older Polks (DBs from 2000) which were replaced by the Momos and I also had a pair of Kicker CVRs 12s. Though the Kicker were louder, the Polks had a much better sound to them. Not saying they sounded bad, it just the Polks had a cleaner, crisp sound to the bass. They would make some noise to let you know that they were there thought, if you turned them up.

For what your trying to do, I would def go with the Polks.

You could get away with 7" mid's too. If you pick the right driver, properly prepare your doors etc, the right 7" driver will get you all the bass/midbass you need to "hear" your system.

CVR's sound really nice, but they are not reallty sq oriented.

I've thought about it, but I still want to run a dedicated sub stage.
