i have no idea how to determine it. lol. I just know thats why people prefer mdf over regular plywood, because of its density.

Why try to reinvent the wheel....MDF is the preferrable material because it's dense and easy to seal up. I can see that kind of material cracking and splitting all over the place.

x2, i remember 3/4" MDF was 21 bucks at once. But recently i guess it jumped.

Do you guys know how much it costs in Lowes or Dixieline?

Hardie plank, thats a siding product.

After I posted it, I realized my error...

I was thinking more of Trex, which is a compressed resin/polymer based decking material. Hardi-Plank and other products like that are concrete-based.

In SW VA and NC, I've seen it for $19.99 a 4x8 sheet.

Furniture-grade 3/4" ply usually runs $45 a sheet.

No what seems stupid is that you didn't read my thread before you posted. I can get MDF from a lumber company at contractors cost.
