It seems like Son'y amps are trying to find the current load they are going to be receiving when they fire up. Connect everything SOLID. The ground, the power wires, the speaker wires and then try to fire it up. If it is still not doing any good...........all I gotta say is sorry..... you bought a sony. Best of luck with it man, but I have seen lots of similar complaints about sony amps and no fix for it other than send in for repair.

yea that is what everyone is telling me, it was a gift from my girlfriend and sisters for graduation, they bought it from one of there buddies, oh well, thanks everyone for your help, it is much appreciated. any suggestion on what I should get, I have two jl 10w0 subs, and two sony three way front speakers. what would you do four 4-500 dollars. thanks

thanks alot, i am trying to decide on weither to keep the subs or sell them and get some nice speakers, I hear that the infinity kappa's I think are pretty good, any suggestions as far as that goes. I have a single cab truck so there isn't alot of airspace.

You said that the "overcurrent" light was on. That means there is a short circuit on the speaker terminal somewhere. The amp is seeing a dead short. One of your speakers could be blown, showing an unacceptable impedance or maybe the speaker wire is touching metal or something along those lines.

"Offset" comes on when there is an unstable connection somewhere (just like Alaxan said). Probably the ground. You said you were just holding it there.

Anyway, the amp is probably not bad, but you have a connection somewhere (or maybe a speaker) that is.

Here is a link to the owners manual if you need it.

once again thanks alot for all of your time, I am new and want to learn alot, one last question, hopefully. How will I know if in fact my amp is shot, just keeps doing this after i check every thing. thanks a ton

if the red light is on without any out put to the speakers; it sounds like you've fried the output circuit in your amp. take it to bestbuy or somewhere and see if their installers can tell you more.
