Please Help! Problem with My 1000/1 and 12w7

Hi, I just finished connecting my setup and all I'm getting is a very faint noise from the subwoofer. If I turn the volume up the sound gets louder and I can hear the music, but it's extremly distorted and doesn't have any bass to it. It's almost as if the speakers aren't getting enough juice. I can hear vocals and music coming from inside the box, but it's barely pushing the woofer. When I turn it all the way up, the lights in the car are dimming so I'm not sure if this is an amp issue or a speaker problem. I have the following equipment.

The car is a 2004 pontiac gto.

eclipse cd8455 h/u

jl 12w7 in a prowedge box

jl 1000/1

0/1 guage wire from battery to distribution block. Fuse after battery is 100amp and distribution block has a 50amp in it.

0/1 guage ground wire from the distribution block to the car chasis.

4 guage power and ground from the distro block.

Tried searching for hours and came up with nothing like this. Hopefully somebody can help me out.

Thanks

the dimming of the headlights makes it seem to me like your amp is working fine. check your wire connections from the amp to the box, then from inside the box to the sub. if thats not it, it would lead me to believe its the driver thats at fault.

Well - my first thought is that you've put a strangle-hold on that 1000/1 trying to feed it with no more than 50 amperes of current. (50a fuse in the distro)
Yea, I wondered that as well, but wasn't sure if it really mattered. I bought the sub from an authorized jl dealer out here and I got the amp from onlinecarstereo.com. I hope to god nothings blown.

Thats the 3rd complaint I have heard from a JL1000.1 owner, i'm starting to get suspicious. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

What did you set your low pass at on your amp? does it have an SSF, if so whats it set at? Have you measured the amp output with a DMM?

Not sure yet. It's in a prowedge so I would imagine they tested it before shipping. If not then that's pretty **** lazy. I'll have to pull it apart today to check it out.
No you won't, just hook a multi meter up to the terminals and measure the resistance //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

Where can I pick one up? Lowe's? Home Depot? That makes much more sense than me pulling it apart. Thx!

As for the 50amp fuse at the distro block. Do you think that's a problem?

Also, The fact that I'm getting sound would lead me to believe that the h/u and the amp are ok. I'm guessing somethings wrong with the speakers. Or could it be a bad ground? I'm just wondering if anyone's ever experienced this. Shit like this tends to happen to me quite often. I don't have the best of luck :/

Not sure what an SSF is. Haven't measured with a DMM yet, but I'll pick one up today

I set all settings to the middle. I would think you would still get some response even with the settings the way they are.

all the setting in the middle? wouldnt that have the low pass @ about 55 and the ss @ 55? = nada!

look at your amp find the 'low pass' dial set it to about 100 find the ssf or sub sonic filter set it to about 20?look for a switch that sais hp/full/lp set it to lp and get back to us!
