Please help me help my son

do you think it would help to just run a new wire from the fuse box and a new wire from the battery for the always on? not that i have a clue how to do it.

but i dont have anything to hook the harness to. because it was all ripped out when it was stolen. should i go to toyota and try to by the oem harness? can i run a new wire from the trucks fuse box so that it will operate with the ignition?

I would run a New wire from the fuse box from ignition. And a fused wire from the battery for the constant lead. And check your ground over carefully. A loose or dirty ground can cause your problem. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If the truck's factory radio connectors have been hacked off, an adapter harness won't do you any good. The whole purpose of those adapters is to let you use the existing vehicle wiring.

It sounds like you got a bad power or ground connection.

Ok if I run a new wire from the ignition fuse box , how do I do that? Is the ignition fuse box the same as "the fuse box" on this particular vehicle the fusebox is under the hood. I see that there are several unused space for fuses. What do I have to do to get another fuse spot hooked up? It looks like the spots are there but I don’t see a receiver for a fuse in these holes.

There should be a radio fuse. Use it if it's switched. Just run a new wire from it to your head unit. Then run a new fused line from the battery to the head unit. Find you a good metal spot in the dash. Most metal crossmembers in dashes are welded directly to the frame. Sand away any paint ,clean it real good. You want your ground terminal to be touching bare metal all the way around it. Then bolt it down good and tight. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ok we have done everything. all new wiring from the fuse box, new ground and even new speakers. still the same problems, what do you think. the head unit?

no i will have to go get another hu. when we started this project we had problems with the first one he bought. so we took it back it is better you can get more volume from it but it still cuts out. these are cheap durabound head units. from walmart. it is 15w per channel. i think i am going to buy another inexpensive name brand unit. what would you all suggest is there anything $100 or less that is worth a darn?

Do you own a voltmeter? What is the input voltage when the unit cuts out? Also does the unit shut off and stay off - or does just the sound cut off? You didnt happen to try and "bridge" the radio by chance? Too low of a load would cause issues - all that fails to fix it - the radio is bad.

The radio cuts out. if you put the volume up to far it will cut out until you lower it. and while it is on lower volume it will cut in and out.
