please help a newbie

hi, i have a scion xa and the stock sound system is starting to sound crappier than usual. i want to change the front speakers and add an 8" or 10" sub. my budget is $300. i was planning on buying Polk Audio DB6501, Polk Audio DB840 and some cheap amp because a friend have this components and the 12" version of this sub and i like how they sound. i try researching here but there is so many options i dont know where to start so i decide to star the thread to ask a few questions

do you think this are good options or can i get a better options for the money? also what amp do you recommend?

300 is very tight. That's 300 to split between front speakers, a sub & an amp. Reminder, you're still gonna have to pay for an enclosure, wiring and labor costs.

Front speakers: Boston Acoustic SE series. They're great and can be had for less than 70 shipped.

Sub & amp, I don't even know what to recommend with that budget. Best bet is to hit the classifieds.

try waiting on the build and getting a bigger budget then wasting ur money now and upgrading later. you will be way happier. and maybe look into a skar ivx or something... audio pipe amps r cheap. or a mb quart amp all depends on how much power u wanna push to ur sub.

Yeah, we understand that. But please take the advice from hundreds of us that have been around car audio for a while. If you get a $300 setup, you're definitely not gonna be satisfied, and sooner or later you'll be back at square 1. With a $300 budget, you're not gonna be satisfied. That budget can get you the lowest quality car audio, there's really no way around it. Continue to save, slowly build your system, be happy in the long run.
