Playstation, X-Box or a Blue-Ray separate/combo?

I currently don't have a gaming system. I want one though and plan on doing that for Christmas. I was over a friends house today drafting my Fantasy Football team and they had his X-Box Elite going. He said it plays 1080P. So I got thinking maybe that is the way to go instead of buying a game console and a Blue-Ray/HD DVD combo or a single. Any thoughts on the way to go?

What about original xbox + component cables + xbmc + torrents? Cheaper, plus you don't have to pretend you can tell the difference and won't become a fanboy.

Actually I am not going to lie, I have been pretty let down by the selection of games for the Xbox 360. So far the only cool ones are Gears of War, Forza II, and Halo 3 (which isn't out yet).

good games are nonexistent on the ps3 and I currently own one...

Me I would go with the xbox 360... If you want high def player wait till around black friday their will be a sub $150 hd dvd player then //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif but blu ray will be 2x that.

Actually I believe it's called frugality. But I also believe that it's not the only benefit of such a combo. I often make more use of my xbmc box than I do my 360.

I bet those are going to be some super high quality players...

toshiba a3 which is a newer version then mines... 1080i, dvd upconverting,true hd,etc etc and the a30 which is 1080p is gonna be $199..

oh ya venturer will have a $99 1080p hd dvd player

Seriously I would get a 360 Elite. I disagree on the bad games selection because there are alot to pick from and the titles are getting better quick. There's Oblivion, Gears of War, Halo 3 (3 weeks or so), Fight night is pretty good, Dirt is awesome, and GTA is no longer tied down to only Sony. Also Xbox live rocks. Paramount said they would not put out any blue ray movies...so that would be pretty pointless to get a blue ray player because alot of good titles are paramount.

i have an elite + hddvd and a ps3..

id have to go with the ps3 if i were to choose 1 of the 2...ive had a bunch of problems with the 360.

btw, the elite does 1080p for hd-movies...there arent any games capable of 1080p for the 360

theres several studio's that are only using blu-ray aswell..disney, lionsgate, etc
