Playing With Configurations (Decisions, Decisions)

Jesus that would be a huge enclosure for the Aurasound. Close to 10 cubes for ported puts it right at my limit. I could make it work, but not sure I want to sacrifice parts of my budget to afford her.

Maybe I should scale the pipe dream back and say that I don't want to really spend more than around $700 for the drivers themselves. I'm also budgeting in about $300-350 for the enclosure itself (I am NOT a competent box maker). The remainder of the money goes to new amplification for the front stage (most likely a Leviathan), deadener (about 80sqft of Damp Pro and probably 40sqft of LuxuryLiner Pro), electrical, and installation parts.

@denim ; I shot this up on SSA if you care to respond both here and there. It would be greatly appreciated. Additional information I'm looking for is what types of enclosures each sub will like? I've seen people using the ICON sealed, but is that putting it at a major disadvantage over ported if the overall goal isn't just getting loud?

You have enough time man, just keep some money saved and keep your eyes peeled for some '05 XXX's.
Indeed, I do have quite some time

Guys, realize I'm not in a rush to make a purchase here. Just want to know more about what's out there, not just for my sake, but so I can make more sound (heh) recommendations to others.

I understand the budget side of things but in all honesty that sub doesnt require that much room for car audio use most I would use is 8 cubes personally I would shoot for a hair over 7cubes. Remember in home audio the Idea is to play 20-1500hz flat in subs in a car we only need 20ish to 100ish so we can scale down box size and lose the high frequency extention without missing it

Good call. And I'm sure she sounds like a dream. I'll add that to the list of considerations, then.

In all honestly it really sounds best in 4.5cubes sealed and stuffed. And it has a recommended ported box of 6-10cubes. 7.25 seems to be the most common design
Well that's a bit of a relief. Would be an interesting enclosure to design since she looks almost as deep as she is wide.

I've considered having Corey make some. They're just not as easy to resell.
With what your looking for I'm not sure any of these will be easy to resell and get back what your looking for, I would go with Corey or zues but that's just me. Maybe look for some 3hp motors to stay in budget

The Icon sealed is quite nice, but obviously not going to be as loud when ported. The Xcon is a great sealed option for one of our sub woofers if above 1000 watts or so, less then that, the Gcon is my sealed box suggestion from the SSA line up. But the nice thing is none of our subs are so biased in one direction or another too far. :)

If you have no interest in SPL then why are you trying to go so big? I just did an install with a single 12" that has more than enough SPL for my needs but is also an SQ champ...
