Playing around with my AMM-1

Just got a SMD AMM-1 and decided to play around with some of the amps I have since they never appear on Amp Dyno video's.

To test the amps, I have a 500W 4ohm Braking resistor as a load (Though I do have another 4 ohm 500W Braking resistor and 2 1000W 2ohm resistors on the way). I also have a RDPower 150amp power supply which will supply 150 amps of 14.4 power., and I'm considering getting a second so I can have 300amps on tap.

I will be doing more test on these amps as my other resistors come in, but these are some of my results so far.

All tests done at 14.4V

Wet Sounds HT2

Rated at 150x2 at 4ohm

Actual 153x2 40hz tone 166Wx2 on music (Yellawolf Trunk Music)

Orion XTR 1000.1D

Rated 400Wx1 at 4ohm

Actual 451Wx1 40hz tone 497X1 on music (Can't wait for my other resistors to come in so I can test this at 2 and 1ohm)

Polk PA.D40004

Rated 125x4 at 4ohm, 2x400W Bridged

Actual 146Wx4 40 Hz, 153x4 Music, 533x2 Bridged on Music (Didn't do a tone bridged as my resistor was screaming hot after the music test as I exceeded its wattage).

I have a couple other amps hanging around in which I'll test later (Both of my Orion's in the sig, JBL GTX 500, and a couple of more Wet Sounds amps I have in my boat).

Rated at 350X1 at 4ohm, 500x1 at 2ohm

Actual 518Wx1 4ohm on 40 hz tone, 685x1 4ohm on music... HOLY S**T, talk about under rated!

Ok screw it, broke out the JBL GTX500 I have and gave it a 4ohm testRated at 350X1 at 4ohm, 500x1 at 2ohm

Actual 518Wx1 4ohm on 40 hz tone, 685x1 4ohm on music... HOLY S**T, talk about under rated!

wow thats crazy at 40hz., also crazy they didn't list it at it's music wattage.. think it'll do 1k at 2ohm? is that a old jbl?

I'm still stunned at what I got to be honest. Steve Meade did a Dyno on a GTO501, which is very similar to this one and got 883 dynamic at 2ohm, which might be close to what I get when I do the 2ohm test.

It's not that old to be honest. I got it last year and had it in my boat until I switched it out for a Wet Sounds Amp. I got it directly from Harman directly (The company I work for has a deal with them since the supply the OEM speakers for our cars) for dirt money. I'm thinking about getting a Club 551 since I can get one for like $70 and giving it a run...

can't go much over 800 if it just has 50amp fuses., can't believe it did so good on low freqs though..

if i remember correctly, Subaru had some McIntosh head units in the legacy wagons in the early 2000s

We did... And no one bought them... Took us forever to get our parent company to focus on Audio again.. Our HK systems in our Legacy and Outback line sound really good now for a factory system, in the top of the line anyways.

yeah, i seem to recall that it was a big fiasco. McIntosh in a japanese sedan or wagon just didnt jive well. Not saying anything disparaging against Subaru in the slightest, but that was a tad upscale electronics for Subaru at the time

Ok just did a 2 ohm test on my JBL GTX500 and holy S**T, I am so confused by these numbers I am half tempted to buy a AD-1.

The first run I am POSITIVE I got the amp to a hard clip, but the AMM-1 didn't flash the clip light. So take this number worth a grain of salt.... 2ohms... 1382Wx1 .... 500W rated amp. 40HZ Tone

Second run, hooked up the DD-1 and I think this was WAY More accurate, so left it on for runs 2 and 3, screw the clip indicator.

Run 2, 40HZ Tone 1% Thd 2ohms 716Wrmsx1 (This lines up with the JBL Steve Meade tested on his AD-1)

Run 3 Music (Yellawolf Trunk Muzik).... No Bs 1082Wx1 at 2ohms... I imagine it had to be clipping, but the clip indicator isn't working on this AMM-1 for some reason.... DD-1 Distortion light did go on during the big bass notes.

Well I won't be recommending the Orion XTR1000.1D anymore...

Did a couple of tests on it... and disaster struck.

Did a 2 ohm 40hz test, got up to 680 watts at 14.4V (Rated at 700W at 12.6V)

Did a 2 ohm music test and got 828 watts

Did a 1 ohm 40 hz... Amplifier didn't like it and caught fire.... Ooops

Thought I would add my test of the Soundstream TX1.2000d

No music tests this time all 40hz to 1%THD (As indicated by DD-1)

599x1 @ 4ohms

1074x1 @ 2ohms

1574X1 @1ohm (NOT A FULL TEST as my power supply is only rated to 150 amps and I pulled 173 amps before I could get to full volume on the deck, power supply started buzzing).

Just had a DD Audio DM1000 come in and tested it out. I initial thoughts... I know why DD doesn't list what these do at 4ohm... They make very power there.

Here is what I got
