Plasma tv

Plasma's are great for rich color/black detail but **** if you get any kind of light in the room, the glare is terrible.
Mine is pretty good because it's mounted high up on the wall so all the light coming in from the windows is too low, but my parents' tv is much lower and the glare is unbearable. They ended up draping blankets over their blinds to block more of the light.
i know how you feel about the blankets/drapes.

Refresh rate on Plasmas isn't comparable to the refresh rate on LCDs/LEDs. Because of the way they operate it's a completely different ballgame.

Also - content is created beyond 60hz, just not TV content (Some movies, video games etc) that being said if you ever have the opportunity to watch the TVs running different refresh rates side by side you'll appreciate the difference, regardless of the content.

I already had the blackouts on the windows, had a bad experience with samsung cs over a hometheatre I used to have, so no more samsung anything for me, ever.
Personally speaking I'd rethink that, Samsung has arguably had the best TVs on the market since Pioneer stopped making Elites, and in my opinion their higher end models beat the Elites as well at the time.

the h/t that i had, for some reason stopped playing my blueray disk. made contact with samsung via their 24/7 on line chat. let the tech no what the problem was, not playing the bluerays and not 'recognizing' the speakers that were connected, and was advised that the system was about 2.5 months out of warrentee and that i would have to purchase a new one. i replaced a phillips magnavox with the samsung, had a similar issue with the pm h/t had, and yes it was also out of warrentee, they replaced their system telling me to send them the old one in the new one's box. passed that info on to the samsung tech, who then said that he could email a downloadable link to update the firmware. he could not explain why his player would no longer play disc that it had previously played. so, i prefer not to have to deal with them, thank you very much.

Just replaced my toshiba lcd 46 inch with an lg 60 inch plasma, and just dam. 3,000,000 contrast and 600hertz refresh rate,
Anything over 60Hz can't be differentiated by the human eye if you could even get content that was more than 60Hz. I like my cheap little old Aria 30" LCD, when I have time to actually use it

my toshiba had 120, here lately, when watching football, when the ball was in the air, whether kicked or a long pass, the football was pretty much outfocus or there would appear to be multiple fballs. that is not the case with the lg. is that the result of the refresh rate?

let me know when you get a big boy tv!!!! lol 60in is in the bedroom, you should see my 80in in living room... I got LCD though plasma's go out every 4 or so years...

i don't do tv's in the bedroom, that room is for a completely different type of entertainment, but i do have a decent stereo in there, with a mb quart pwe 15 inch sub. besides, my tv room is not big enough for anything larger that what i have now.

I have seen side by side. I appreciate when I don't have added frames that aren't native to the movie. Video game consoles can't even output beyond 60hz, and content is not created beyond that. The industry standard (what producers shoot) is 24 frames per second. Rarely higher, and definitely not 120hz. Its similar to interpolation, it's not real.

I install av equipment for a living. I've seen the difference. Point me in the direction of content made beyond 60hz from the producer that complies with us NTSC standards. Not something remastered to 120hz or beyond.

Poor image interpolation with the Toshiba. It was basically bad at creating something that want there and the lg is better at interpreting something that isn't there.

That makes sense. I am loving the football on this, and the bluerays are crazy. The fact that they don't last real long is a chitty deal, but will cross that bridge when I come to it. I only paid 699 for it, so I should be ok.

so im actually in the market for a tv. sorry to thread jack, but alot of good info guys in here. looking for a 40-50" in the 600max range. leading towards LED as stated glare is a big issue on plasma, and it will be in a living room with large windows.

I've gone to stores just to look at the picture and brands, i have to say i like the looks of Samsung and LG more than Vizio. Any model reccomendation, would 60hz be okay, or should i go up to 120hz? i dont need any Smart/3d/etc bs.
