Planet Audio any good?

rated at 1400 rms but isn't cea certified, which means it doesn't produce the watts rated for. look into an aq1200. Should be a good match for 2 type rs

Not true...CEA is a bunch of BS so don't worry about it. Plenty of amps aren't CEA certified and still put out rated and then some. Hell, that 2200 you have isn't certified.

Not every amp gets CEA rated. Its just a stamp manufacturers pay for so they can claim their amps do rated. Besides all that states is that it does rated at 4 ohm.

On of the best indicators if it does rated is to look at fusing. Some companies claim 1200wrms@1, but fuse at 20a. This amp has 160a of fusing. Thats a strong indicator that it has the potential to do rated power. The flip side is that it could be over fused. This is where gut shots come in handy.

it also isn't stated on aqs site if it is or isn't.

It's TaylorFade certified //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If the SS you're looking at is the DTR, it'll crap all over that Planet Audio BS. Not a fan.

and you sir are correct about over fusing. Have seen some flea market specials with some crazy fuse ratings.

Your amp must not do rated then. Piece of crap.

To get CEA certified they need to pay for it. Why would a manufacture pay for the certification and not state it? They wouldnt.

The amp that I would be trading is the Soundstream Lil' Wonder 1700 watt monoblock amp, only reason I would trade for the PA amp is because the Soundstream amp fried.

At least I think it did, the company I received it from said that Soundstream told them... that they couldn't find anything wrong with the amplifier after testing it for an hour. I don't know what else would start smoking up in my trunk out of nowhere, besides my Type R's, but I tested the voice coils right afterwards and got a 4 ohm reading from each of them. They didn't smell burnt at all and the amplifier smelt fried. I even tested to see if the amplifier was putting out any volts but got no voltage reading either.

I don't see how Soundstream can say that the amplifier was operational, I just don't want to get the same amp back in the mail just for something like this to happen again. So I figured I might as well go with a different amp.

I bet if aq amps were avaiable from say sonix or crutchfield they would be cea certified though. I guess because aq or a rep is one of the few places you can get them, why bother in paying for the cea certification...
