Placment of subwoofer box? Does it matter middle of box or ?

I am going to be making a subwoofer box for a SA-12 "paying somebody for the plans". I have a 99 extended cab Ford ranger and the subwoofer is going to be facing the back of the seats. I have a lot of room, but im not sure if it will matter if the port/vent will sound better if the port is facing up, towards the seats, or going to one of the sides? Also, I have seen the subwoofer in the middle of the box, and I have seen the sub on the far side of a box. Does it matter I listen to mainly rap music. Do sub on one side and port on the other, face the port out the side or up. Make sure the port has room in front of it to breath

Sub up and port to the side would be my first choice. Sub and port location and aiming can make a dramatic difference.

Sorry Not understanding where the port should be. Here is a picture of my old setup. I had 2 E-series 12's and the new setup will be a single SA-12.. Subs were facing towards back seat and port was the same. I have lots of more room with a single setup. Thanks again guys.

I had a box like the very top one , the 12 on the side and the port on the other and it beat hard. I had a L7 12'' on it and I needed no more. Hope Im not being rude but I am curious how old you are since you say you had a stroke?
