Pioneer X8500BHS Steering wheel control questions

I got this HU installed a few weeks ago and have 2 questions about the steering wheel module I had added. Now I don't know if different ones exist, I just had the stereo shop install the one they said I needed (Saturn Sky) Here's what I'm wondering.

When I hit the mute button it goes into ATT mode, the installer said this was how it works when I asked. Is there any way to get the mute button to actually mute? And about the up/down arrow buttons. I know they work because they change the radio station fine, but for a CD or my iPod Classic they don't do anything. Are they not suppose to do next/previous track? If they don't by default, is there any ways to add support for this?
