Pioneer wtf

naw i'll just get a hifonics or whatever next week, i hate going to best buy, the people there don't even know what rms means and even after i explain to them they still try to sell me the amps by what their max output is... i'll just keep the 2 pioneers for some 6.5s or something.

but yet the BB people still impress me/know more than you do

So i ended up getting some 12 gauge connectors that look just like fuses on the end. They worked just fine for 15 minutes or so until the whole car filled up with this nasty plastic smell, which turned out to be the plastic on the connectors melting off. After that the metal was still there so i was like ok and left it be. About 15 minutes later i heard a clicking sound and look back to see bright light, which was the metal pieces glowin like a light bulb and then seconds later the amp turns off. I realized that perhaps the amp had "broken in" and was somehow outputting more power then it first did, hence the fuses starting to blow, but im not sure about that

LMFAO

lol, so it wasn't the amps problem? Why did it work for the first month just fine before the fuses started blowing? There were no flaws in the hookup... no sparks, not even the power wire getting warm at all, let alone melting. As to what Lousiana mentioned about 2 ohm mono and stereo... im just wondering whats the difference between them?
I have this same amp in the Girls car, and it pushes the Kicker Just greeeaatt!

Now, for your issue. It is a short.

Why?

Because I did something similar to a sony amp. What happened was that the power wire got pinched when I was trying to install it all stealth like (when I was N00g mind you) and the seat's frame sliced the coating ever so slightly, but just enough to arc a spark. I blew the inline fuse first. The upgraded that (RE: n00g) and still blew it. After listening to everyone elses' advice, including Tweeters, Best Buys, and Radioshacks installers, all of whom had 0% a clue of what was going on, I tore my seats up and immediately found the issue.

I would say if it worked for a month, something wore down somewhere from vibrations and you finally toasted an amp.

Also see: Stable @ 4 ohms only.

BTW, that amp is an AWESOME buy for the buck when used properly. It definitely was better that the Sony POS I bought at the same price, and much more reliable.

He must've been confused as to which Pioneer amp you had, and thought it to be a two channel.

Two ohm stereo would be when you have a 2 channel amp wired into two 2 ohm loads.

Two ohm mono would be when you have a 2 channel amp bridged into a single 2 ohm load.

Generally a 2-channel amp is stable to 2-ohms stereo and 4 ohms bridged mono, as the amp sees these two situations as the same load.

Perhaps next time get a DMM out and try and troubleshoot more before you ghetto the shit out of your gear.

ok, as for the issue of there being a short... no all the wires are still fine and none of them have ever even gotten warm to the touch, and yea this amp is an alright bang for the buck which is why i got 2 of them this time, except having 2 sucks majorly. And to add, i do have a dmm and use it often. In a different thread i mentioned that i had found out that my ground had been to a primarily plastic location which is most likely the cause of the amp getting so **** hot all the time and for it and all the past amps i've owned to have blown... However even after i got a much better all metal ground when i hook up both amps there is still half the sound which leads me to believe that the problem lies with my pos HU. Would it be easier to just get a new one or to get some kind of a signal booster?

and btw the amp specs say it draws 37amperes i believe and my cars alty is prolly putting out 60 average idling and i don't use the ac or heater etc while i listen to the music so power should be alright right?

it would be worth taking your car and amps to a good car audio store, for $40 they will test everything and tell you what the problem is / are. sounds to me like you go thru amps like i go thru milk? no-one can afford that.

i can afford it, but i'd rather be saving up the money... anyone know if having a 2nd battery in the trunk will cause the main battery to drain? I don't want to wake up with a dead car.

As long as you use shielded connections, and don't mess anything up,there should be no drain.

I still believe there is wiring somewhere messed up. The HU should only be sending signal to your amp, I do not see how it is the problem. A bad ground HU will cause odd symptoms, noise in the lines, but not overheat an amp.
