Different strokes for different folks I guess. When I listen to music, I want the speakers to make love to my ears. Not ram the shit out of them.
man, this is a hard pick.i think i like how the eclipse is with the memory stick you can add things on it but ,im have to say pioneer.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I will assume this was a sarcastic laugh in disaproval of what I said. I have used multiple Pioneer units as well as multiple Eclipse units. And as for no frills performance and quality, Eclipse, IMO has the edge. I don't see the need to put a 2 page disclaimer on every recomendation post simply to cover my ass for someone getting butt hurt because they're personal experience(the only grounds a recomendation or review should be based on btw), or their personal preference does not agree with mine. And further more, you make 3 different posts about why you like Pioneer better than Eclipse... each and every one is 100% revolved around the looks of the unit. Every post I have made on the subject has been based on build quality, performance and value..oh yeah, and my reviews and recomendations are based on personal EXPERIENCE. Do not discredit what I say because you think the unit I am recomending is "ugly" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

No. Not quite. I also posted talking about how the 880 outperforms the 5000. In fact, I also said that the 7000 vs 880 was a more fair comparison. I'm not trying to say Pioneer is better than Eclipse. I'm saying THIS Pioneer is above and beyond THIS particular Eclipse. The 880 > 5000. The 880 is on par or better with the 7000 for half the price.

Its a NO brainer. The 880 is a much, much better bang for the buck and over all better head unit.

Again, not even a fair comparison.

Sounds like installer error to me. I've owned many Pioneers in my days and have never had a problem with skipping.

I voted the 880 because it has more tuning flexibility and the time alignment is WAY more flexible on the 880. The CD7000 is a much closer comparison to the 880. The 5000 doesn't really compare to the 880.
Ive owned many pioneer and eclipse units myself and 2 out of the 3 pioneers all had skipping problems, Both were high end premiers (780 and 960), the one that didnt have skipping problems was a low end 3500 pioneer. hm? Every eclipse ive owned was and still is 10x better then most of the pioneers put out today (3422, 8062, 50440, 5432, and now cd7000)

I guess im more of an old school, less is more type of person, all the bells and wistles on the pioneers could never have made up for the shitty quality compared to other decks ive used.

I stand corrected then. And I can agree with the one point that you made about comparing 2 different procuts on 2 different levels. Same as that other thread in here comparing a decently high level Pioneer to Nakamichi's lowest model.. Sure I can buy a bare bones Lexus RX300 for a similar price as a fully loaded Yukon and have that "luxury car name" under my ass, but why? when i can get more out of the Yukon and have a decently reliable product, just lacking an "oo and ah" name.... Fair comparison to this thread?

agreed. i went from a 8445 to a 780mp and the eclipse doesnt hold a candle to the pioneer when both are tuned properly.

Like has been mentioned before, if you only need a cd player then get the cheepest (I assume it is the eclipse one).

But comparing xovers, TA and EQ, the 880 wins hands down.

For something in the middle, look at the JVC KD-SH1000, it's in the middle in terms of tunability but has the added feature of USB and SD card. Can be had pretty cheep to on cardomain.com
