no you dont have to it's up to you,but yes it cost extra for navigation.

Have you checked out kenwood? Check out all the stats of the 7800, cd5000, cd7000 and compare them to the kenwood excelon x790,x890,x990. I just had the exact same debate. Pioneer vs ecclipse vs kenwood. End result = I ordered kenwood. You gotta be careful with the cd5000 b/c a lot of amps dont accept preout voltages above 4-5 volts. while that has an 8volt. Just some food for thought.

I wouldnt take a kenwood over a CD7000.
