so my head unit has no sub outs, only pre-outs. so how do i hook up my sub? right now i'm just running it off the rear channels of my amp, but there is no way to really adjust the level to match the mids. is there a way around this or do i have to get a new HU with a sub out?

You'll have to use the fade to change the volume, and he means the LPF on the amp.
fade won't work.. they are actually rear-outs, so the hu thinks all the sound is in the rear, instead of split between front and rear like on the amp
