Pioneer HU wont turn on!!

my friends has a deck, its an older model of the Pioneer deh-p9600mp, w/out the color screen. all of a suddent its dead and wont turn on at all. its past the warranty date so what to do?

has any of you guys experienced this? any idea how much it would cost? or should he just scrap it and get a new deck?

any comments/advice would be greatly appreciated!

its highly possible its just a simple problem. Take the deck out, make sure all connections are secure. Check battery connections, all that good stuff.

check the wires that go to the radio with a test light make sure that the radio is getting power and also check the ground.

Also... tell him to make sure he has the car in the ON position.. Common error

check the red (acc) wire for a small black plastic box cut it out and wire up normally. see what it does.

That black plastic box, What does it do, It says fuses and filters on it?
