Pioneer HU display lighting and dimming on its own?

Having a random problem with my Pioneer DEH-510UB. Looks like I am going to send it back and swap it out for another but I thought I would check here as well.

Randomly, the display will get extremely bright for about 3 seconds and then go back to "normal" after that. It happens at random times sometimes being a day or two apart from each occurence.

Its not the dimmer function of the unit as my original wiring harness didn't have a dimmer wire so I left that wire "unhooked" from the back of the HU. I also have the dimmer "disabled" in the menu settings.

There is also a very VERY low volume but HIGH pitched whine coming from the HU. It is NOT coming from the speakers. I just noticed it last night when I was doing some work near the dash of my truck. I had to actually remove the HU and put my ear right on it to determine if it was in fact coming from it. It is that low in volume. It makes this noise whether the unit is powered on or not. The only way to make it stop is to disconnect the power from it.

Wondering if the "whine" has something to do with the display problems.

Thoughts?

When I still had my Silverado I had a clarion headunit that did the same exact thing. Every once i na while it would light up and dim light up and dim, but then as time went on it got more persistent and went out. I never found out what was doing it because I had another clarion here that I put in it right before I sold it.

I'd like to know the answer to this problem too.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Well doing some reading now, it looks like it may be a "reverse" function that is turned on. Just walked out to my truck to disable it. I guess when I ride around later I will see it that, in fact, took care of the problem...

Although, the "electrical whine" is still there...
