Pioneer DEH-P9300 problem..

I recently had my P850MP die on me. Started that the face would loose power and now it wont even turn on.

Well a friend sold me a 9300 for like 200 bucks that he HARDLY used.

I got the radio, seemed to work good and about 3 weeks later it started to do funny shit.

One day I turn on my car and I notice the radio doesnt come on. I took off the trim and pryed off the face then put it back on and it turned right on.

Didnt think much about it at the time but then a few days later it did it again. I had to pop the face off and put it back on again.

Then lastnight I went to change tracks and the face shut off but the radio kept playing.

What the hell? I've had 2 pioneer decks do this shit now. Why? What causes crap like this. Normally the motorized front has to come down in order for the face to come off so I'm really worried I'm going to break the fast if i keep prying it off to reset the problem. It comes off REALLY hard but its the only way for me to get it off when t does this because it will NOT turn on unless I remove the face and put it back on.

I'm about to buy another brand H/U. I'm getting sick of them doing stuff like this.

If 2 decks did this to you in the same car that is an eerie coincidence..do you have the correct wiring harness for your vehicle?Typically the issues I have heard with PIONEERS are not this severe (usually just screen image issues)..the 9300 is a nice model but DAM..about 5 years old!!!

In 6+years, I've never had anything go wrong with any of my Pioneer Decks. I think it is either user error or something wrong with the way you are handling them or something along those lines.

O god. Its not a user error.

First off, both decks were installed with the proper wiring harnesses and professionally installed.

I know whats wrong with the P840MP, its a well known problem. They are junk. I called around and even found the same into here. The face plates are defective. The cable that goes to them wears out.

Hell one shop I found has a hole section on this problem and offers repair and upgrade for like $60 bucks to owners of 840/8400, 850/8500 and 960/9600 owners who have the problem.

This 9300's doing the same shit though.

How does one handle a deck wrong? Yes taking the face place off is a hard task..

The problem with both decks seems to be in the face/ribbon cables.

If you wiggle them they normally start working. Altho the 840 did finally die all the way.

Well.....my P840 is still going strong in my buddies truck; and I bought it the very first week they were released.

As for handling wrong, there are a bunch of ways to do it wrong. Being too rough with it while your handling it. Being rough on the faceplate and pushing it in odd directions. Damaging it while it's being installed.

I just posted this on another thread but here goes again. Clean the electrical contacts on the unit and the faceplate and see if it helps. I've had those symptoms with an older Premier headunit and that fixed the problem.

Ya I've noticed alot of people having problems with Pioneer hu's lately. Most face plate related issues.

I know with the 84xx 85xx 96xx series its poor design and the ribbon cables are to blame but maybe it just is the contacts. Who knows. Hasnt done it sence i posted asking though. Next time it does I'll prolly spray the contacts good with copper contact cleaner and brush them down good.

I had a DEH-8400MP just die on me the same way too. After three years of solid operation it (it's the split 2 face silver one) opened half way and then just would not operate anymore...CD got stuck in and all. I was on the last few weeks of my Service Plan at Best Buy and got myself a fresh new 9500 that sounds so much better!
