Pioneer Bluetooth help

Hi,
I have recently installed a Pioneer DEH-S6220BS. I'm mostly a CD person, but I do have some MP3 files on my phone I like to listen to. I paired my Android with the unit and it shows connected, and the Bluetooth icon is on the display, but when I play a music file, there's no audio. I've tried playing a YouTube music video, same results. I covert YouTube URL links to MP3 files and download them on my phone. They play on my phone and they play on other Bluetooth speakers around the house, but there's no audio on the Pioneer even though the counter is running on the music file. The tech at Crutchfield where I bought the unit wasn't much help. I do not have an app for then Pioneer on my Android, but I was told I don't need one to pair two devices via Bluetooth. Does anyone know why the files have no audio even though everything appears to be connected? Thanks very much for any suggestions.

That's usually going to be a phone setting or a head unit setting. There's two different connection methods, audio and phone. Probably the default is phone which only moves audio when you further tell it to. The head unit won't display itself to the phone as an audio device until you select it as a source from the audio bluetooth category. If going through their settings for audio connections doesn't work you may have it muted for that bluetooth device, phones remember separate volume settings for separate Bluetooth audio outputs, use the drop down and make sure it's not mute. Generally if the audio still plays on the phone it means it's connected in phone mode, not audio device mode. If it doesn't then it's probably muted or the head unit is on the wrong mode/source.

Interesting, I was thinking along those lines, like it's muted, so, what you're saying makes sense. I'll look into that tomorrow. When I said the phone plays the song, but not on the Pioneer unit, I meant it's running on my phone, I can see the timer moving, but there' no audio on the phone or the vehicle. I know it's something silly, but you've given me some good info to try and locate the issue. Thanks!
