Pimp My Ride Install Question

Has anyone seen that recent pimp my ride where they install the mtx speakers and sub in the trunk of a firebird? It is the one where the speakers in the trunk spin around. I was thinking about it, and was wondering how they wired that. Anyone have any ideas how to wire something like that without getting the wires tangled when everything spins? Not saying I would want to do that, but am just interested in how they did it.

Nevermind, just thought about it some more and figured it out.

I am assuming they wired all the speakers together, and then just had enough slack in the wire hanging down to allow the speakers to move without pulling the wires out.

Haven't seen that episode (or any cause I think the show is dumb) but typically when you have something that requires an electrical connection that you also need to rotate you make a circular trace for every circuit and then have a spring contact for each trace. The pivot point is in the middle of the circles. That way no matter where the thing is in its rotation it has electrical contact.

i don't think wire slack makes a difference.... it looked like it could constantly spin in one direction ....

they probly did a contact strip.something similar to a slot car from when we were kids.it had a positve and negative track and a set of contack brushes to make the conection.

You need some sort of connection, as helo said, that is a circular metal trace, and the other part needs a brush contact that is spring loaded. The same sort of thing they use in wind generators that allows the blade rotate on the post.

I saw the spinning 5.25 coaxial one last night...dumbest fucking thing I have ever seen in my life. That show is a disgrace in terms of car audio, and pretty much everything else as well.
You mean you wouldn't want a sink in your trunk? And who doesn't want a T.V underneath there car? LOL.
