Pierce Audio Products Steals Designs

There are three patents on that basket. Two for the design itself and one for the removable thread adaptor which makes the top assembly replicable. Even if the cast was 100% re tooled it would infringe on our design patent at the very least. The patents are all posted on our website under each driver that uses the frames.
The tooling and design costs for that frame were very very expensive and you don't see many custom frames around for that reason which is why we are defensive about it just as JL Audio, RE, MTX, Kicker, or any other manufacture is of theirs.

The reason many older frames are shared is because they were designed over 14 years ago and the patent no longer holds. The frame we use on our TC-1000 is one example a "free" frame that anyone can use without infringement.

There is nothing illegal about buying our frame from our vender or directly from us, you just can’t resell it unless otherwise negotiated. We are an OEM too.

If anyone has any questions for us, please direct them to our email or our forum.

Thank you all for the comments and concerns,

We have some very exciting new products lined up for 2007 for the car audio crowd.

Why did you take such offense to this thread? patents something that strike a nerve with you?

ouch, patent infringement! they could settle behind the scenes with "p.a.p." paying TC royalties for use of their basket.

so trying to follow that, pap hyped up a sub, then it was found to not live up to the hype? and now they make a sub with "eye appeal", and we are supposed to expect different out of them? because it "looks big, it must get loud"?

or is pap taking a few different peoples loud subs, conglomorating them together, and then going to try and claim it as thier own and put their name on it?

my first impression of that linked thread, something doesn't seem right with them.

you cant have a patent on a design, not to mention, you could modify the design by half a milimeter, and its nolonger the same //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
if you had any experience whatsoever with patents you would understand that often measurements are not specified in an application or in disclosure documents. the whole point in the beginning is to be as general as possible so it cant be quickly copied. the measurements can come last and even then dont have to be all to specific, otherwise you fall into the category of a design patent. which you say isnt real. outside of the measurement problems, you have what you may dub a clear patent. nonetheless, if a basket was specifically patented with precise measurements, and the other companies are building the same to spec, then yes there is a violation there. but, it could be the case of a millimeter difference. of course a basket can be patented, you cant generalize a basket because there are only a few "popular designs". there are several companies which have a specific patent on a basket. you can patent whatever the hell you like. whether it will stick or not after your payments depends. there are a lot of loopholes. im in the process of a patent, not audio related.
