Pick my Hu/ amp(?)

Pretty much trying to put together a decent sounding setup in my daily driver. I'd like to keep things under 500$ if possible. I pretty much narrowed down my speaker choice to :

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductReview.aspx?ProductID=15351

I don't really want to go through the install hassle with components, i have no problem with dropping some speakers in and calling it a day. That being said, should I power them off the HU (2 ohms..) or get an amp? Suggestions for both would be great.

If you're going to use those particular Infinities you'll not want to try running them from the HU. The reason being is that the internal amps in headunits are not designed to operate properly when presented with a 2 Ohm load.

With those speakers you're going to need to run an outboard amp.

For power on a budget for those speakers how about something like this?

Rated at 80w per channel RMS and with Profile's tendency to overrate their amps a bit you'll likely get 65-70 actual watts from it at full bore and it's available for under $100/shipped.

any aftermarket head unit will work, as long as it has preouts for the amp. it would actually be hard to find a new one without preouts. what's the budget for the head unit?

I'd prefer something under 200$ ideally. Doesn't really have to be cheap, i know from past experience you get what you pay for with HU's (I had a 500$ pioneer one back in the day, the DEH-8800 or something along those lines and it was sick in terms of how much I could customize things and tweak sound etc) since this isn't my "nice" car i won't go balls out with the HU though (i'm still running that same HU in my VR4 - swapped it with me from car to car as i've went along //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif )
