I want to see component door installs that have been custom mounted with a sealed box type of setup. ive seen kick pods, but i want to see something like a little mini box insife the door for your midbass, if there is any, thanks

yea thats what i thought also. oh well. i figured you might have something to show me from the shop. can u show me some component installs youve done yourself? id appreciate it greatly. need ideas for my new XXX components

I wish I had more pics of what I've done, I've done quite a few door pods at the shop...

Only pics I have are of my 4 year old giganto pods in my truck...

Problem is, most car audio mids are designed to run IB in a car door. Mounting them in a small sealed box will make them grossly inefficient, and their low end response will suffer. Many of the kick panel installs are either ported (into the carpet is popular), or run midrange only in a 3-way setup.

An innovative door install idea that gained a bit of popularity a few years ago was building small sealed door pods for the mid, then attaching a piece of hose to the sealed enclosure that would drop down in and lay in the bottom of the door. Its length could be varied to adjust for enclosure volume (and possibly hose expansion). Ive been wanting to try this myself, but Im a lazy bastard. For example, Im too lazy to dig up any pictures of the hose thing. But Im sure you get the idea.

i used some 1/2 cube cereal bowls and mounted my 5.25s in it then mounted them in the door. sounds good to me, but i have been thinking about changing it and seeing how they sound then, but idk. Ill have to get pics. IMO they sound better than when they were IB in the dash.

I've seen at least one such install. Will see if I can find the thread later when I move to another forum. Very neat installation in my opinion.

A trick the team ID guys told me years ago was use tuperware bowls for small sealed door enclosures.

I've seen this done. Also, there's a walkthrough on DYIMA (http://www.dyimobileaudio.com) where the guy uses another material other than Tupperware... uses a much more stable / stronger looking material. The application I saw with the Tupperware, the guy lined it with sound deadener... I guess to strengthen it. But if I had some FG laying around, I'd fiberglass the outside to strengthen it... and a coat on the inside, too. But, I guess you use what you can get.

Ive been thinking about doing the same thing using some large pvc pipe. Mount the speaker to the door panel, and build an enclosure right on the back of the panel to keep a "stock" look. in my car it is about a foot from the outer panel to the window when rolled down and with 7 inch pvc that would give a decent cubic footage to work in.

I actually started bulding a set for my car today. Not if they are exaclty what you were thinking but i got a couple of pics. I started with some brazing rod and made a frame to lay fiberglass over. Its the size of the original baffle and it sits inside of the opening. I just got the first layer on today to get the basic shape. This piece will just be the main base and i will get a set of rings for the 6.5's and they will be sittin out from the door a little and be angled up towards the seats and fiberglass over them as well. I'm hoping that I can get at least .3 cu out of them. I will try and get the speaker as far out as possible.
