Can I live?
They've got one of these amps in a local pawnshop for 250ish and I was wondering what was it about this amp that would command such a high price? Can someone give me an idea of what kind of power this amp can make, or tell me whats the big deal? Its in immaculate condition, but still, is that worth over 250? I did a search and never really found any solid info on it, and amoguts says its 550 bridged@4ohms. WTF?

But my question is WHY do they cost so much? I can probably actually get it for less than the $250, but why would I pay that price for it? Whats so special about them?

Old school amp that was built in the US. Well designed, does rated power, and will last a long time. I'd take a guess that it is at least 8 years old, probably more.

.........AND? No disrespect, but 550watts is nothing special. Being made in the US is saying a little something, but that still in my eyes doesn't warrent them being on ebay for 500 and then at a pawnshop for 250+. 550 watts isn't phenominal in any way, so what makes them command such a high price? Are they collectors items, do they sound better than anything made during that time, or do they just have a cultish following? I've never heard of them and from the specs, I'm not impressed

There is no and.

It's a quality amp and to some, it's worth much more than what the pawn shop is asking for it.

Hell if you can haggle the pawn guy down to 150 I'll buy it, let me know where to send paypal.

I doubt it would go that low, lol. I can get Alpine PDXs, IA 20.1s, or a lot of other amps for the same price or less NEW, but 500 on ebay seems extreme. They also have an Audiobahn 2200HCX for 280 thats been there for mths. I've had one of those and they are pretty strong amps, but it died on me after about a year. There's an old MA Audio 2 channel thats light green with a see-through top for 240. Its a pretty large amp, but most were back then.

I'm just confused as to why someone would pay those prices for older amps when from the posted specs, they're not anything special

Haha, so my Linear Power 2.2HV rated at a mere 12.5 watts per channel isn't anything special either, lol.

Look, it's a well built amp that does rated power, and it will last a very long time. Obviously you don't have a use for it, so why not pass on that deal and let someone that will actually appreciate an old school PG amp buy it.

PG back in the early 90's was the sh!t. You are paying for a pure SQ amp w/balls. That amp was made back in '92, so a bit more then 8 years old. They use Triple Darlington output devices and are unregulated amps.

In a sense, you're buying the cleanest watt money could buy.

I knew someone could explain it better than myself //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I guess, "well built amp" isn't a compelling argument. I wasn't sure on an exact manufacturing date, so thank you on pinpointing that for me.

No offense Bass lover, but that is the kind of answer I was looking for. I'm not an SQ guy, so that amp dpesn't interest me at all. You may have it sir, I have no use for it. I just wanted to educate myself on some of the older lines of amps. If you want I can try to get the price a little lower, but you'd have to make sure that you actually wanted it before I spend my money on it.

None taken, I knew it was a good amp, guess I just couldn't really explain why, haha.

If you can get the guy down to 200 or less, emphasis on the less part, then let me know I'll buy it.

Gotcha, I'm headed that way in a bit
