Yes, when you turn on your cable/dsl modem you are assigned an IP address, even though this changes sometimes as with cable modems they still know IP address 111.222.333.444 was assigned to customer such and such from this time to this time thus you could have been the only one who did it.

You could always fight it in court and say that maybe someone was stealing bandwidth off your wireless network but would be a pain in the *** to have to go to court over such a stupid thing.

I don't know that the wireless internet thing would work but if you are some idiot who does not know jack about computers I can see it working, obviously don't try it if you work with computers for your day job.

ex: let say you don't have a computer yet you ordered ur laptop and its coming in a week and u want ur internet to be ready as soon as it gets here.

in the meantime someone hacks ur internet and downloads a bunch of songs/movies.. u signed the agreement with your ISP your responsible your screwed.

i download torrents myself.. im on a hacked version of XP right now and im downloading All of mudvayne's albums right now.. im not against piracy im all for it. im just saying if u try to bring this to court you are not gonna win

9 times out of 10, use of a service constitutes agreement to the companys terms and conditions.

And the wireless pirate argument doesn't work because you are responsible for inbound and outbound communications from your connection.

then your ISP is responsible for being n00bs and not making you sign one and then you have a court battle because u didn't sign anything..

aka like a local wireless internet provider in the small town my parents live in didn't make them sign anything and they have no user agreement and it will eventually be traced to their T1 lines that they feed off of.

So they could actually sue the ISP
