people using limewire getting lawsuits?

hey my buddy called me and told me to disable uploading in limewire. he says he knows of three ppl that are getting sued for 3,000 dollars. He said that some kind of agency goes on limewire and tries to download a song. And whoever they download from will get a letter or something stating that they will be fined 3,000 dollars for pirating or whatever. He said that if they choose to fight the case, take it to court, and if they lose, they will be fined 30,000 dollars instead and that defeat is almost guaranteed with this kind of evidence.. He said they can trace your IP if you happen to be one of the ones that upload to them through limewire. My theory is that even if they have your IP address, they cant trace exactly which house its coming from so were still safe even if we uplaod through limewire right??

(im just wondering, i leave my uploads off but was wondering if this is really happening to ppl??)

keep limewire, just dont share the files you have downloaded, easy as that. they arent gonna get you.

Limewire is a free p2p site and utility so they as a company cannot be sued, BUt if you are caught pirating music yes it possible to be sued, i personally dont upload to limewire.

i know theyre not going to get me but is it really possible for them to do what my friends says theyre doing? he said his siters friend got hit, one of his friends got hit, and his sisters boyfriends friend got hit. can an IP address really identify your household??? wont an IP address just give them an idea of location/provider but not actual street address and names?

an IP adress is linked to your computer connection to the internet, and then they just look where your connetion goes, and there is your house, i believe.

Most likely bs, but I didn't know people still used limewire...
