Peavy Subwoofer

Ohmmeter- see what ohms you have to play with- most likely 8 or 16.

Id find about a 100 watt rms amp or just attach it to a channel of your home system and play it by ear and the gain knob really. Just dont push it. I am running a JL 10W3 full rang and it sounds okay, pro audio driver will most likey be much better even then.

It's 8ohm. That's about the only data I have. I wish I had a more permanent car to put it in. I have a 92 Toyota Corolla and I'm weary of putting much of anything into it because just anything could go and it would cost more to repair than I paid for the whole car... (300$).

So, if something happens to the car, take it out?

peavey is known for PA and stage equipment, they are not designed for car audio, or HT

your best bet would be to fix up the amp or put another amp in the place of the old one

and sell it to a guitarist or some one that needs a small PA

Well I play Bass which is why I have this. The thing is I took it to the music shop my uncle works at and he said it's not worth fixing. The repairs would cost too much. I don't have much money so I just had him give me back my amp so I could take the speaker out and mess with it. It may not be designed to be a car subwoofer but I don't see why it wouldn't work at least. I'm not looking for the best or anything, I'm just looking for... well... anything... lol

its not going to work because it designed for a bass guitar amp, so the fs will be way too high for a audio sub, and won't play the lower Hz bass correctly there fore it wont work

Well it was pretty loud when I played so if I could get that volume out of a 40w amp then I'd be happy in the car. I guess I'll maybe just buy a tiny amp on e-bay and see what happens. Just goof around some.

40w is 40w, it doesn't matter if it's powered by 12V DC, 120V AC or 15000V AC; if the amp puts out 40w it'll all sound the same.
take ur word for it....im learning bit by bit....but i just want to know why you dont see professional speakers with 2000w and so on??????

and i wasn't referring to the amp...i was referring to the speaker which was a professional speaker...which would mostly use 120v amps...but a 40w pro speaker would get a little loud...

Their efficiency is so high there's no need for it. When you have a driver that has a sensitivity of 98db, you don't need thousands of watts. Plus they can use bass horns/large ported enclosures (because of less space limitations) to further reduce the need for big watts. But there are pro sound drivers with power handling close to 1000w RMS.

But your comment was "40w on 120V"...I was pointing out that the driver would behave the same with 40w from a 12V DC amp since the input voltage to the amplifier doesn't change anything if the output wattage is the same. 40w is 40w regardless of the source; which is not what your original comment sounded like.
