Peavy Subwoofer

I was using 2 huge home audio towers with 12" woofers in them for a few months... sounded pretty good with 50wRMS each. They looked similar to the ones in the pic and they were rated at 110 watts "musical power handling" which I assume means RMS.

Their efficiency is so high there's no need for it. When you have a driver that has a sensitivity of 98db, you don't need thousands of watts. Plus they can use bass horns/large ported enclosures (because of less space limitations) to further reduce the need for big watts. But there are pro sound drivers with power handling close to 1000w RMS.

But your comment was "40w on 120V"...I was pointing out that the driver would behave the same with 40w from a 12V DC amp since the input voltage to the amplifier doesn't change anything if the output wattage is the same. 40w is 40w regardless of the source; which is not what your original comment sounded like.
ok...i can see where ur comin from...i understand now...thnx

i guess ur the person to turn to when u have questions!!!

I just Jerry rigged this thing up to a boom box. I re-assembled the cabinet and remounted the subwoofer in it. Man is it loud! With a 100w amp this should work ok. It appears off the back this boom box is only putting out 9w. But it's 9w at 3 ohms and the subwoofer runs at 8 ohms.
