so my component amp took a dumper just 2 or 3 months out of warranty //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/pissed.gif.9f665f96bc89e98e708dabd4580bb591.gif, for no apparent reason (only thing i can think of is over heating, being my car is parked in the sun all day, and the amp is almost too hot to touch when i get in the car before i even turn it on)

so for my rainbow slc's im looking at the PDX 2.150 which i think is super sick looking, and attractive specs, but i havent ever heard one, best buy doesnt carry them and i havent been able to get in touch with the only shop in my town that carries alpine, so im curious about the SQ of a class D amp, but i do looooove that it only pulls 30 amps

on the other hand ive been wanting to do an active setup, but i know most of you disagree with running the rainbow slc's active, but i dont care... only thing is i would have to go with a cheaper amp than the PDX series if i went this route so... i dunno whatcha think

Well im liking my 2.150 so far, this is my first comp/amp setup so far so i cant really give input on the SQ of it. But i would definitely recommend this amp to anyone willing to spend the money on it. In person it is to **** sexy, lol and has a helluva lot of power to.

are you running a sub or no? only "complaints" (if you even wanna call it that) ive heard about the pdx is that they are a little rough on the lows

While Class D amplifiers are getting much better I still would not associate them with top notch sound quality. They are noisy and typically have a poor S/N Ratio and Channel Separation. If you plan on doing those nice components justice I would not use a Class D or T based amplifier. FWIW. YMMV

well im ordering it cause its supar sexci and i like the extremely low space and power requirements... i'll let ya know how it goes!

i have never heard anyone say they dont recommend running slc's active. explain please. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

there was a discussion a while back where a few members were against it... who knows if they were just talking out of thier ***** or not tho

and after looking at that s/n and channel seperation more closely im starting to wonder about the pdx... especially since i wont get to hear one in person...

other amps i was considering (around the same price)

Rockford 650.2

or

usamps md22 or md23

300wx2 @ 4 460wx2 @ 2 960wx1 @ 4 S/N Ratio: 105dB

THD: >.03%

Freq Response: 10hz-30khz

Channel Separation: 95dB

Damping Factor (@14.4v): 600

that is pretty nice but the *****es are like 20" long and rated 90amps

The PDX and ICE class d amps are nice. I wouldn't hesitate recommending them. I can not discern a difference between a/b and full range d in an automobile environment. In a quieter house environment might be a different story.
