Check this out: http://www.pc-infinity.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=MB-M55SLI4&Store_Code=P

Apparently a "GIGABYTE GA-M55SLI-S4 Socket AM2/ nForce4 SLI/ DDR2/ SATA2/ ATX Motherboard"

It seems to be a good mobo from what I can see; I'm particularly looking for 4 slots for memory, and SLI capability.

I don't know jack sh!t about motherboards. I know about everything else. PC specs will be as follows:

Athlon 64 x2 6400+

4GB 800Mhz DDR2 6400 RAM

GeForce 8800GTS or GTX (Still deciding...)

This is the list I have to choose from. I'm building it from a website called PC-Infinity.com. (No, I don't want to build it myself... I'm lazy. Plus, like that, mistakes happen. Lol.) Anything in this list that is better?

It's not a bad board, but I'd probably take an nForce 570 or 590 chipset motherboard if I were getting AMD.
Of course, I would probably advise getting an Intel Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad if you're going to run a gaming rig or wait for the AMD Phenom CPUs to come out later this month if you really want to stick w/ AMD.

Also, the GeForce 8800 GT is faster than the 8800 GTS and is also cheaper. Just an //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

What's wrong with running an AMD X2 6400+? It's a huge improvement over my current Athlon XP 3000+, lol. I'm not an avid gamer, although I do play a few games, I won't be playing Crysis or anything insanely demanding like that.

From the looks of the benches ive read, it seems intel is the way to go in this gen of hardware. but if its cheap and you dont do much gaming, you are good to go. I would rather be a little more "future proof"

oh but you will.

I don't blame you, the problem is that I probably won't be able to afford the next generation of CPUs that will be coming out. I'm pretty sure I should be good for a few years with the X2 6400+, I did fine with the XP 3000+ until now, and I've had that ish for 3 years now.

w00t for phenoms! That ought to drop the dual core prices a bit.

Only things that are really new are the new Nvidia and ATI GPUs and the AMD Phenoms. The new Intel chips won't offer much improvement other than more cache, a slightly higher IPC rate, and greater overclocking potential. Hardly worth waiting 3 months for, IMO.
12mb is pretty nice though lol.

what he said, and dont forget "black friday" is just around the corner

although cpus arent high on the list for discounts there may be some great deals on cpu/mobo combos later this month

frys.com??
