paperclip fuse

what do you think the fuse rating of an average paperclip would be?
if you are even thinking about using it in an audio install, you my friend, are an idiot. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/banghead.gif.8606515f668c74f6de0281deb475b6fd.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wallbash.gif.1310150c49dd52e0fbe1813a0681e5c3.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/ponder.gif.ec2527b23f1d287b60dcbba54f95edba.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/waycrazy.gif.f4a380c3f94043939fd369defd9e6be2.gif

hey thanks *******.... no im not going to use it in an install

it was just a general question to compare the size of a paperclip to the size of the piece of metal inside a fuse.

but thank you for giving me a answer to my question!

It can be any number of materials though. The size of the filament isn't the whole story. If you really want to test it though, get a regulated power supply, wire the paper clip inline with a dummy load and keep increasing the power until the paperclip starts to heat up. If you have enough power it should eventually kerput.

i was testing a computer fan and i used paperclips to directly connect the fan to my amp's +12 and gnd connections. i was trying to figure out why the fan wasn't spinning when the paperclips became red hot. As it turns out, the natural reaction was to prevent the red hot clips from catching the car's interior on fire. so i grabbed the clips with my hand. I immediately regretted that decision... i had marks on my hands for months.

i'm trying to remember if this was when i used a 30A or 80A fush. i'm pretty sure it was 4 years ago that this all happened, so i'm guessing it was the 80A fuse.

so i'm betting a paperclip that has been strung out would be good for less then 80A.

Anybody see that mythbusters where they replaced a fuse with a bullet, and tried to see how much current was required before the bullet fired?
i saw the recreation of the incident with the asshats in the jeep, but, never saw the whole show. how much did it take to set the bullet off? did it go off?

It was enough current that it was catching the 4ga or 8ga wire on fire (don't remember how much actual current it was).

But yeah...they got it to shoot off.
