That is very... very odd.. :/ But why would the cutout for a 4" speaker be MORE THAN 4 INCHES? That wouldn't be very tightly sealed...

A 5" speaker would have a hole around 4.5", the speaker size relates to the outside dimension (where it mounts).

Yeah the measurement of 4.5" is from the outside ring, straight across to the other side. But that is no including the flaps that would stick out for the screws. So wouldn't that mean 4.5"?
