Optima's Red Top > Yellow Top?????

Too Bad the Everstart MAXX doesnt fit in my truck's battery tray. Boo dB Drag Rules.

Which is why I have a yellow top. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Ive always heard that.
Yellow tops if your runnign stereo and stuff with the car off

Red top for starting and general usage.

Never really found out the reason WHY. Or which is truly better.

I have a redtop under my hood. I'll only be pushing sub 2k Watts so hopefully it's enough.

Paid $119 at sears
Yellow top is deep cycle. Red top is not.

If you do not know the difference or understand why deep cycle is better for compeating with the car off then you have much to learn about batteries.

If you never plan to put a big load on your battery with the engine off then a red top would be better because it can recharge faster and react to voltage swings better.

If you plan on ******* every last amp out of your battery with the car off and still expect the voltage to be over 12v and the car to start, you better go with a yellow top or you will be getting jumped at the competitions a lot.

Regular batteries can not be cycled down to almsot no charge many times before they are completely destroyed. Deep cycle batteries can do it all day long with little affect on over all battery life or performance.

If you want the most out of your amps get the yellow or blue top... I dont care what any other forums, any battery expert, any electician, or even Optima says. I've tested the difference between the two more ways than anyone would care to know about and I'll use the yellow or blue over the red for everything. The only circumstance that calls for a redtop IMO is if you have auxillary yellow or blues in the back, or if you dont have a system at all. If you dont have a system, get the redtop... 2 more years warranty, and better heat resistence...

so the yellowtop will increase your SPL?

how so?????????
The easy to understand answer is because it's better... and I've tested it... a million times.

The actual indepth, fully explained answer is more than I feel like typing, but is evident in the fact the battery is more expensive and much heavier. Heavier and more expensive = more lead... more lead = more amperage... more amperage = bigger score //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Still dont beleive me... go buy them... test them... and let me know what you find out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

agreed also if you have a system with a redtop and the place where you purchased your battery knows it too they probably wont warranty it. optima doesnt warranty red tops if you have a system even says so on their web site. wasnt "just for the system" and in my case my old "100 watt car" i was fine with everything until it came to replacing the batteries when they went bad. between 95 to 98 i went through 2 red tops and a yellow ended up at the time just running a big arsed exide that lasted awhile (2 years before they went mega sized on the stereo)

also i might add reserve capacity of a battery is not a bad thing to have. sure you might have a big alt but most of the times when people are showing them off more times than not their alts arent spinning at the rate they do their most power....and also the drain on the alt due to the battery is dependant on the resistance of the battery so if its low resistance its probably still easier to charge up for your alt than some old wet cell.
