Optima's Red Top > Yellow Top?????

I was reading up on this forum and it said yellowtops are not meant for car audio use because a standard lead acid battery will put out more current than a deep cycle battery can,how true is this?

i dont really litsen to my system with the car off so would i be better off using a red top?

dam.. now i don't know what to get again.. haha. a lot of people on here have used yellow tops as their main batteries with no problems though. scottiej even says the yellow top > red top

i use a yellow top for mine works alot better then the convention battery i used before that

*shrugs* I dont know a lot on the subject, but I know that the redtops are meant as a really good startign battery(normal use, but can obviously be used for other stuff as well). The yellowtops can be drained completely and recharged as well. Though, for example, using optimas websites battery selector it gave me options of a few batteries.. one of the yellow tops had higher cranking amps than some redtops for my truck. Regardless, I know a yellowtop can start a car. someone else more knowledgable chime in? lol Plenty of people use yellow tops as both started and as additional batteries for their cars.

red and yellow tops are usually about the same price maybe 10 dollars diff

also my redtop had been draind dead a couple times(needed a jump ofcorse) but the next day i crank the car right up and it sits at a solid 14.4-5 volts

yellow tops are high current deep cycles... ment for starting.

BLUE tops are more of your standard deep cycle batteries.

Red tops are non deep cycle, starting batteries.

lol ive drained my yellow top over 50 times because a problem with one of my interior lights i didnt know about for a while. always holds a charge still

i understand that but it was saying that unless you run your system with your car off all the time you would be better off getting a redtop

Cheapest I have found RT's to be here are $160 Cad, and YT's ~$240 Cad. Would prefere YT's, but the RT should suite me fine.

Well, I'm too lazy to search for you, but the summary of his post was that deep cycle batteries typically have a much slower rise time (much slower to respond to current demands) and have a higher internal resistance than regular batteries.
