Optima: Yellow vs. Red

You don't seem to get it. They are not designed for car audio use, why would you do it? It would be like using computer ribbon cables to connect your speakers. Would it work? Possibly, but why the hell would you do it? Why would you use a battery that is not designed to power car audio when there are so many others that are designed for audio? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
No I don't think you got it. At least what I said went right over you. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

i still can't decide what i want to go with under the hood //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif lol

i don't want to deep cycle any of my batts, but id think that the yellow might or something, and yeah id like to go with the yellow top, but im thinkin (because i know i want a pm d3100 in the rear. (1 to start with, probably eventually another one later) that because the two batts don't match they will not pair up well.

and if i could i just want to run the biggest batt under the hood, so its upgraded as much as i can go, so all i have to do is just add some in the back as needed.

How many watts does a h/o alt support?

How many watts is the limit for a single batt, and h/o alt? (before you start putting more in the back?

my red top just took a shit on me and i havent even had it a year.

whats THE best battery for under the hood. i gota kinetic 2400 in the rear.

i need a GOOD battery up front.. point me in the right direction somebody......

nah. it was like 3 years back. optima warranty may have even been different then. not sure.
Nope its the same now as then. I Had one replaced back in 2001. Pulled in the install bay, they did some testing, 1 hour later I was on my way home with a new Yellow top.

ORLY? You are saying that the manufacturer is wrong when suggesting that you do not use the Redtop for audio purposes. They know that they will have a super short lifespan in that application. If you personally do not care about swapping out batteries often due to misuse and paying for new units, then go ahead. Just don't give out that info on a forum to people looking for help.

It is similar to telling a guy to run his subs wired to 2 ohm on a 4 ohm rated amp. It would work for a short period possibly, but it also would kill the amp sooner or later. It just does not make sense.

so if possible should i just avoid yellow tops?

and just go with something bigger under the hood?

and try to keep all the batts with the same company

i just looked into powermaster d3400

i drive a silverado 1500... so it would fit perfect and only at 240 shipped from mechman

i'll be running less than 4k watts. (probably closer to 3500)

but with 2 d3400's paired up or at least 1 under hood w/ d3100 in the back + h/o alt. will that be sufficient?

Yes ORLY! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif You obviously don't understand what I said. Let me state this again... When used properly the Red Top will work fine even when used in a car with a stereo system. To clarify that for you... when used improperly causing excessive discharge then yes you will kill your Red Top. This excessive discharge will happen in cases where guys try to run too big an amplifier with too little alternator power causing the extra current demand to be pulled from the battery. You will kill a Red Top in this situation. Set your electrical system up properly with plenty of alternator power and your Red Top will be just fine. I really can't believe this thread is even still going. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif Go buy yourself a PowerMaster already and end this.

Redtops will work fine for car audio use when used properly. There isn't any need to discharge a redtop even if it's used in the back primarily for car audio. If for some reason your battery is discharging then you need a bigger alternator to keep up with the current demand instead of putting too much load on your batteries.

Used properly =/= car audio //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Used properly = starting your car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

He is running 4kW RMS. Is that too big of an amp? Will one Red under the hood and one Red in the back power that 4kW RMS system? He has a stock alt right now, but even if he buys an HO alt, those Red tops are fine?

If you are nodding yes, then GTFO. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
