Opinions on the alpine cda-117?

If you GET the cheap add on it is one step away from the 99. 3 way active is all its missing and that can be fixed with the right amp and still comes out cheaper
Even with the H100, the 80PRS still beats it....the Alpine only has 7 bands of EQ graphic, 5 Parametric and these are not independent for the right and left side....80PRS has 16 bands L/R independent out of the box.

The only features the 117 have that compete with the 80PRS are the 2 way front active capabilities and T/A...

The 99 is a long shot from the 117...

The other day I tried to price Alpine 117 with BT and Imprint, and the price come out to around $500 online. I didn't know it's active 2-way front capable without the imprint. It's not a bad stereo, but if DEH-80PRS does not have any hidden surprised, I'd take the Pioneer deck.

As long as there aren't any RCA issues like in the past with pio decks, it's gonna be my top choice for a while in its price range.

yes it does and the pioneer has a better cd assembly than alpine
I replaced a 9887 which is known to have the same sound as the 117. The adjustability, sound quality and added features its just not a fair comparison. The 80 does have a warmer sound compared to the more sound sound of the alpine. I just hope pioneer and clarions gamble of trying to pump life into an all but dead market pays off. A lot is riding on the success or failure of these two units. Unfortunetly the sq market makes up such a small number of they're quartely sales its tough to see quality decks anymore, so lets keep our fingers crossed.

Your setup in your sig looks like one of great deals of sexiness //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

That is all

doesnt come with built in aux? weird. i mean all the specs look amazing on it compared to what i have now lol.
i like mine front rear sub time alignment, 5 band parametric or 7band graphic eq, builtin highpass, no low pass though, ipod integration could be better but it works, only reason i dont like it is not having an aux plug something alpine makes u buy separate overall im satisfied with mine cant wait for my bluetooth adapter to come in
My thoughts exactly on this. You have to choose between having an addon or AUX. Can not have both AUX in and Ipod hooked up from what I can tell.

And I think the Ipod connection is still analog as well were the Pioneer is digital.

80PRS just seems to be a lot more for your money.

EDIT: Did a bunch of reading through manuals and such tonight. CDA-117 AUX in is achieved via the AI-net plug (or the other plug that the BT module plugs into)

And the CDA-117 also has a USB in for ipod and Alpine advertises it as using the HU's DAC.

So it comes down to the 80PRS having more built in and better EQ. Whats left is UI preference (pioneer has lots of pretty colors to choose from) and SQ. I wonder which does have better SQ?

i agree with most of the post here the 117 is a nice deck but you have to buy the imprint and that ***** thats like 150 and if you want Bluetooth you have to buy a ALPINE KCE-350BT thats another 50 to 100 dollars so in the end the 117 is not worth it to me
