Ok opinions are like A**holes, everyone has one.
Ok yes I know you can get out of control with high end stuff and while I can afford it I think it can get out of control, so let me give you a history of my last two systems and then get some feedback.
2003 Ford F150 Harley
Yes when MB Quart was good I had two pairs of the Q216 signature series in the doors powered by a JL 450/4. I had a custom sub enclosure made in the rear center console with a JL 10W7 powered by a JL Audio 500/1. Head Unit a Kenwood KVT-911(I believe that was the model number) & Music Keg.
This system killed, my all time favorite. The highs were high and bass was deep, loved it.
Sold the truck and got a 2005 Convertible Corvette
I used a set from the truck of the MB Quart 216's for the doors with the 450/4 JL but the 75 channels went to tweets and the 150 channels to the 6.5's. Then we had 2 8W7's (I like how the W7's hit hard) powered by the JL 500/1. Head Unit Kenwood 7XXX (I liked just don't remember model) & Music Keg.
This system was ok. It sounded good but in a convertible compared to the truck cab wasn't the same. At low to normal volume you never really felt the 8's and cranked up, sounded good but those 8's in the setting never came close to the single 10W7 but again we didn't have a lot of space to work with.
Now before we get the Super Bee, I am not a do it yourselver and really trusted one shop that has since closed in this economy about a year ago. Yes I know people think JL is overpriced but I do love there products and the knock is price not quality qhich I have no problem paying for, having said that I know as an example Morel 3 way is a great set up but payin 1800 for a set seems steep to me, the Q216's at the time MSRP was high but they could be had for 550 a set which seems good to me, so here we go.
The Dodge Charger Super Bee is a 4 door with 6 X 9's in the door. I was original thinking to play it safe a go with 2 pair of the JL ZR650's for the doors with each pair powered with a JL Audio 300/2, and then either a pair of 10W7's, 12W7's with either the JL 1000/1 or even a pair of JL 500/1's. Audio shop when I ordered the car said we might be able to get a single 13W7 in the floor of the trunk and build the floor up.
Now having said that, I don't mind losing half my truck as it is huge but I don't want to lose more than that. Second when I called audio shop to discuss today he said the 6 X 9's give off a nice mid bass and recomended the Image Dynamics XS69. I then emailed Sean with Image Dynamics and he was nice enough and I told what I was thinking he kinda attacked the JL product and while I understand he is pushing his product JL is a good product and I wanted to know about his product. He told me of his set up which is probably nice but he isn't big on rear fill (I believe that is the term he used) I have never heard that so I am I wasting money in the rear doors? I have 2 kids 15,12 so alot of the time the system is with the family so I want a nice sound for everyone. Anyway back on topic, do I want a round componet 6.5 set or how is the XS69? Yes I know I need to hear them myself but some of you guys know what you are talking about.
So like I said I like opinions not a**holes. I like my highs high and my bass deep. I think I would be very happy with all JL but I have never owned there component stuff or even heard it. Also I like the factory head unit because of the nav and controls in steering wheel so was going to do the 3sixty.2 and if it lets me down, replace the headunit later.
Fire away this should be interesting.
Thanks
