Hey guys,
I've read a lot of posts on here already regarding SQ subwoofers... thought I'd ask for the latest opinions for my specific scenario. Here goes...
Background: I have a Saab 9000 hatchback that is currently running an Alpine CDA-9857 head unit to an Alpine MRV-F345 75x4 amplifier to power Rainbow SLC 4" components in front, and Rainbox KX 6x9 coaxes in the rear (all stock locations, etc...). I had a Basslink for a while, but it croaked and I'm looking for something a little more substantial to replace it. I have an Alpine MRD-M605 (400W@4 ohms, 600W@2 ohms) mono amplifier to power something. My primary concerns are musicality and blending with the rest of my system while still being able to reach low and provide authoritative bottom end. Maximum slam and loudness are not real high priorities. I listen to some of everything.
I'm thinking about a single sealed 10" subwoofer under $200. I've got a couple of Crutchfield gift cards I'd like to use up, so that would mean an Image Dynamics or Dayton HO (or other sub) is pretty much out of the question. I'm leaning towards an Alpine Type R in a sealed .65cf (optimum according to Alpine) enclosure. If there's something better that I'm missing, PLEASE let me know! Also if there's something just outside of $200 that is better, I'd like to know about that too. The Boston G5 buy-one-get-one-free offer is compelling, although I'd only need one (anybody want to go in and split costs on a pair of G5s?).
Also, with the Type R, I'm unsure about whether to go with the 4-ohm or the 2-ohm DVC model. I'm leaning towards the 2-ohm model to present a 4-ohm load to the amp, not sure if I really need 600 watts at 2 ohms for what I'm looking to do - guidance in that area would be great too.
LASTLY... I have access to a Boston 12.5LF 4 ohm SVC sub that I could put in a 1.0cf sealed box. How would that compare to a Type R or other newer models?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide!
