opinion on shallow mount sundown subs

a buddy of mine has a truck and the only seat lift kit available for him is $140 and its not so easy just to add height to the rear seat of his truck. the seat needs to raise up and actually move forward about 2 inches as well for it to sit properly again against the seat back.

so hes not wanting to get the sundown sa 8.

i mentioned that sndown has shallow mount subs which ive been tryin to steer him away from as ive never experienced a good shallow mount sub in the 10 years ive been into car audio.

needless to say its 2015 and i would assume that shallow mounts today may be capable of good sound quality and bass or they wouldnt still be making them?

anyways thoughts on these subs?

The kicker CVT really isn't a bad shallow mount sub, they get loud in a properly ported box. SQ wise, they're not made for SQ in a ported application. I don't have experience with the sundown shallows but they seem decent enough. However, if you're looking for a sound quality type shallow, check out the stereo integrity BM MKIV. That'd be my first choice if I were to use any shallow.

in your opinion shallow mounts better in sealed? or are there some shallow mounts that do well in ported and better in sealed?

the new sd-3 line is optimized for sealed enclosures and are geared more towards sq. idk if you can still get them or the were wiped out by the pre sale but definately something to look into

Just did a ported wedge box for 2 sd8v2's in a 2015 f250. They are only 4.45" tmd. Customer loves his bass......
