I have a '97 nissan altima, and the stock front speakers are 5x7. I would like to get something better, but I would really like to get some 6.5" speakers. I dont think 5.25 would have enough midbass, and I wanna go with no rear fill.

Can a good set of 5.25's have good enough midbass? How can you fit a 6.5? Is it difficult?

Right now, I dont want to talk specific speakers, as I want to replace my HU before I do anything else. I am just wondering what my options are.

You can get 6.5's in most likely. There are 2 ways that I know of to do it.

1. Trim the hole slightly until it is about 6.5x7.

2. Use a thick MDF spacer to get the narrower part of the cone into the 5x7 slot.....you need door panels that allow the extra space though.

i just made an adapter plate for my 6.5's in my exploder, and they sound great.

I built some baffle adapters that fit in my 5x7 spot for my front stage before I built my kick panels. It worked great to fit 6.5's in there. The only problem I had was filling a tiny space so it was airtight, but I used some clay to do that.
