only 13V at idle without system playing, could it be new timing belt?

It's clearly a bad alt, bad alt turn on wire, or a bad ground. If he ruled out his grounds and load tested and it stayed started until he turned an accessories on, that tells you that the alternator was turned on by the turn on wire, but it wasn't charging at a high enough voltage. An alt swap out will tell you if it's the actual alt or a problem with the ecm. The ecm monitors engine temp, rpm, etc. If something is amiss, it will basically turn the alt off or it can turn its output WAY down. One of the voltage modules would probably bandaid the problem.
the voltage regulator is built in to the alt so if its a regulator problem its still an alt problem. looking at ho alts now, what u guys think of this:

Honda Civic Alternator 2001-2005 1.7 L 145 AMP : eBay Motors (item 260581452691 end time Jul-05-10 08:12:03 PDT)

You always take a chance with random ebay alternators. Sometimes you get a winner.

Did you check the fuse in the engine fuse box - the one that is between the alt and battery? I ask because you say you disconnected the big 3 alt wire and the voltage was different - that's odd because the alt should have still been connected to the battery via stock wiring. The factory wiring sux balls - those terminals also ****. Upgrading factory wiring (at least the ring terminals) is a good idea with this new alt. You're already disconnecting everything anyway.

here's what I did with my H.O. alt (and the Honda ELD bypass):

You mentioning this ELD bypass you made makes me so happy. But now I either have to figure out how to make this relay myself or i'll have to pay you to make and ship me one:D

he's just talking about a regular relay you can buy from radio shack. the scary part is cutting the wires, but its not that scary //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif

the ELD bypass is not scary. just don't fawk up or you'll need a new PCM. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif and take the time to solder and wrap the connections, loom the wires, secure everything well, etc.

ideally, there'd be a short harness that was plug and play with the new wires coming off it.

so you should make them and sell them lol
