One or two subs?

Right now I have a Lexus LS400 with two Bostwick DCL 15''s in a BIG ported

box. This setup takes up alot of room in my trunk and I was wondering how much

output would I lose if I just use one of the subs in a smaller ported box and just

connect a channel of my amp to each voice coil. If it would be a major difference I

will just keep the setup I have know, because it is already hard enough to get my

car loud now with the big gas tank in the trunk. But anyway appreciate the help.

I think it would make a very appreciable difference in output effectively halving your cone area.

Additionally though it can be done it is a major pain in the backside running a DVC sub with two amp channels. If the output from each channel isn't matched pretty precisely to the other you'll end up with the coils not moving in sync. With the coils not reacting to their inputs in unison you can (and likely will) end up with premature driver failure.
