One or two subs?

I was told by someone that it is smarter to have one sub rather than two because one sub is pulling out all the watts rather than the two splitting the watts, ex. one 12" over two 12" one twelve doin 500w then two 12's doin 250 ea. Is that bull or is it true????

depends on the subs...

I'd rather have a single ported sub with more power than two sealed subs with half that power split between them. Assuming they are the same subs of course.

It's not true.

Yeah it really depends on the subs... If you have enough power for two subwoofers, and want that much sound, then by all means go for it. But if you are limited with space, power, and do not wish to have a lot of SPL (but it could still be achieved with a single sub, I am talking about the same subs, in both situations) then use a single sub.

Dependant on what you have to power it with, and what you want to achieve.

depending on the equipment, you can find a single sub that can handle alot of watts, and be plenty loud.

its probably a myth, but more people say 1 sub sounds better. they use the "less moving parts" reasoning, but both subs move in syncronation, so i dont think its true.

if it is done right, two woofers will always douns better than one. but once you get a lot of subs(like 4,6, or more), there is a lot of cancellation, so the more the batter flexuates a lot.

Heres the way i look at it. if your power is limited i would rather have 1 great sub running off that 1 amp rather than 2 ok subs running off it
given that you had adequite power there is no reason why you shouldn't run two subs over one. unless limited by space, dont want something that loud, etc...

Two drivers will not "always" sound better than one...I don't see where you're getting that from.

Two drivers have a much greater potential to get louder than a single one, but nothing that fundamentally affects SQ changes.

SQL is the wave of the future.

if you do one sub properly in the same space it takes for 2 you can demolish the output of the 2 easily, from my experiances
