if you do one sub properly in the same space it takes for 2 you can demolish the output of the 2 easily, from my experiances

2 subs vs 1 sub: +3dB difference, the money for the sub, and double the box size. If you go with only one though make sure that you have the right voice coil setup to work your amp the way you want it to.
